Version: 2.x

Installation

Autograph installs like any other ExpressionEngine add-on: copy two folders onto your site, then choose Install in the control panel.

Requirements

ExpressionEngine7.0 or later. The installer stops, and says why, on anything older.
PHP8.1 or later

Getting Autograph

Autograph is sold and downloaded through the ExpressionEngine add-on store: Autograph on expressionengine.com, $15. After you buy it, the store gives you the release zip, and updates are downloaded from the same place.

Installing Autograph

The release zip mirrors the root of an ExpressionEngine site, so each folder goes to the same place on yours:

Autograph-v2.0.0.zip
system/user/addons/autograph/ → your-site/system/user/addons/autograph/
themes/user/autograph/ → your-site/themes/user/autograph/
  1. Copy the add-on

    Copy system/user/addons/autograph into your site's system/user/addons/ folder.

  2. Copy the front-end scripts

Copy themes/user/autograph into your site's public themes/user/ folder. It holds autograph.js, which draws the pad, and autograph.css, its few default styles.

  3. Install from the control panel

Open Developer › Add-Ons, find Autograph under Third Party Add-Ons and choose Install.

  4. Create a field

Autograph is now a fieldtype. Create an Autograph field and assign it to a channel. See Field settings.

The themes folder

Autograph loads autograph.js and autograph.css from user/autograph/ inside your site's themes URL (ExpressionEngine's theme_folder_url setting), usually /themes/user/autograph/. If your themes are served from a subfolder or a CDN, copy the folder there. See The pad doesn't appear.

Updating

  1. Replace both folders

Copy the new system/user/addons/autograph and themes/user/autograph over the old ones. Replace the folders rather than merging them, so no file the new release removed is left behind.

  2. Run the update

ExpressionEngine notices the new version on the Add-Ons screen and offers Update.

Read the upgrade guide before updating to a new major version. Updating from 1.x runs two database changes: it widens existing Autograph columns, and adds the table that records when each signature was signed.

Uninstalling

Remove every Autograph field from your channels first, then choose Uninstall for Autograph on the Add-Ons screen and delete both folders.

Deleting a field deletes its signatures

Signatures saved in the entry are in the field's own column, so deleting an Autograph field deletes them. Signatures saved as files stay in their upload directory. Uninstalling also removes the record of when each signature was signed. Export anything you need to keep first.
